Trucker Mama: Why Is It an Oval Office Anyway?

With the merging of Eagle Logistics Services with Celadon, we’d like to introduce Trucker Mama to our Celadon family!

A little bit about Trucker Mama: She comes from a family that has a small farm and works in the trucking industry now. She loves to write, but her best work is taking care of her little one, whose favorite word is coincidentally “truck.” Trucker Mama develops weekly blog after tucking her child into bed at night and aspires to write words that may inspire, encourage, and make life a little easier.

This year we will elect a new president.

New representatives will go to Washington, some seasoned senators will return to their post in the capitol and some to their home state.

At this point, it is truly anyone’s race.

In a poll by occupation, truck drivers leaned heavily Republican, by a margin of 3 to 1.  Many of you are shaking yours heads vigorously: yes.  Others are thinking: no way.  Politics in a nutshell.

As the final candidates are slated, what kinds of things matter to you and your work?  What bills will affect your livelihood?  Things like: safety, taxes and licensure requirements.

I loosely get the agenda of the current front runners, and I understand one party is more conservative in practice and one is more liberal.  If you asked who will best support working parents or balance the budget, I would not have a clue. How about you?

Even my trusty Google has difficulty separating fact from embellishment.  After some digging, here are a couple of sites to consider perusing:

· you name a statement floating around, and they seem to have done the homework. It also appears they have a no-holes-barred approach to both parties.

· a site that allows you to peruse information on each candidate, as well as develop your own side-by-side comparison on a plethora of stats.  This tool will be helpful in deciding on who to vote for in both the primary and the general election.

·  Your key association sites, like the National Truckers Association ( and American Trucking Association ( an integral service they provide is a glimpse into what matters most across the industry.  As a part of their mission, they will help to stack candidates up based on who will push forward your profession the most.

Lincoln, arguably the historical president we are both most familiar with and most appreciative of, said these words: “I am a firm believer in the people. If given the truth, they can be depended upon to meet any national crisis. The great point is to bring them the real facts.”  Hopefully, the above vetted sites can help each of us to know the “real” truth versus the constant rhetoric.

The oval office is an integral part of the presidential story, reserved for both the President’s most private and most public work.  It is said to be designed this way to put the President in the middle of the work, while still able to hear everything happening in the room.

May the facts, more than what we hear in the middle of the campaign trail, guide us in the right direction as together we decide on our next leader.

As always, I look forward to hearing what you think of this article and what else you would like to see in this spot.

Take care of yourself and drive home safely,

Trucker Mama

P.S.  The next time I pen this article, it will be March – in like a lion and out like a lamb.  As March arrives, spring cannot be far behind.  I bet you spend time on your daily drive thinking of warmer temps, perhaps the flowers you will plant, gardens you will hoe or even hammocks you will dig out and hang up – just simply to relax in.  Let’s explore together in: Spring can Spring (anytime now).
