Trucker Mama: Memorial Day in America

memorial day in america

All gave some.  Some gave all.

I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country.

Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.

Patriotism expressed in famous words.  This weekend we celebrate it in action.

We observe Memorial Day.  We celebrate and honor the brave men and women who have died serving our country.  Making the ultimate sacrifice and reminding us that freedom is anything but free.

Thank you feels so very, very small when we are talking about people who have done something so immensely enormous.  Not a nobler act exists than laying down your life in honor to your country.  Together, we humbly say thank you, thank you, thank you.

Many of you reading this have served your country, as an airmen, sergeant, captain, first officer. Some of you actively serve in the reserve forces. This work is a calling as high as any.  Fortunately, we take a day to thank officers that have served until their last breath, as well as, all of the men and women who have served and are still serving today in every corner of the world.

Memorial Day was born out of the Civil War as a way to officially honor all of the soldiers lost on both sides of the conflict.  While, fortunately, battles have not happened in more than 150 years on our home soil, you would be hard pressed to find a family in the country today without someone serving in a branch of the service.  And every family is blessed with heroes who are veterans.

Civilians, active duty and veterans alike join hand-in-hand to thank the brave soldiers who laid down their life.  No greater service to our country exists.  For those of us not enlisted today, we also take time to thank those who are or have been.  Your valor and bravery is not celebrated nearly enough.  You boldly serve, never knowing what any day may hold.  Trucker Mama humbly says thank you and God Bless.

As always, I look forward to hearing what you think of this article and what else you would like to see in this spot.

Take care of yourself and drive home safely,

Trucker Mama
