Important warning for drivers in California: Interstate 10 CLOSED near desert center

The California DOT has issued a warning to drivers that Interstate 10 (I-10) is closed between Route 86 and the Arizona state line. A July 19 storm has caused a section of the interstate to collapse at 1-10 eastbound, and I-10 westbound has been undermined at Tex Wash (Adair Overcrossing), about 44 miles east of Route 86 (Coachella) and 42 miles west of the Arizona State Line.

Until further notice, motorists are  advised to use detour routes such as Arizona Route 95 to Interstate 40 (I-40), Interstate 8 (I-8) to State Route 111 (SR 111) to State Route 86 (SR 86), or State Route 177 (SR 177) to State Route 62 (SR 62) to access I-10.

Be prepared for storms if you are traveling in  Riverside or San Bernardino counties in the next couple days. Do not drive into running water; turn around immediately. Keep a full tank of gas, sturdy shoes, and warm clothing.
