Decked Truck Bed Review

Decked Truck Bed Storage System

Anyone who owns a Ford F150 knows its spacious bed has a lot of potential for carrying numerous things at a time. But despite the size, it doesn’t have an easy access capacity. When you put the gears in the back, everything slides around while you’re driving.

The funny thing is, most times, you have to crawl into the bed to retrieve them after a good drive. Hauling a camp stove, toolboxes, or a tent with tie-down straps doesn’t help much either.

That is why Decked has no equal when it comes to providing a secure and dry storage organizer for the truck. When you finally use it, only then you’ll know the truth of this statement.

First Impression

Installing this drawer organizer for the first time, you’ll immediately notice how solid the system is for your truck. You can easily expect to live up to all the expectations you have about it.

The organizer fits perfectly with its modeled truck. Although the model we’re discussing here is for Ford F150, all the models of Decked feel like they are custom-made specifically for that truck.

Installation

Decked Truck Bed comes with some assembly required, and it is recommended that you use hand tools for this process. However, you might want to drill in the corners where there are cans to make drains. This is the only electrical appliance you might use.

But you can also avoid using these and go with the suggested imperial and metric tools like a hex, open wrenches, Torx drivers, a 3/8″ socket, and screwdriver.

The whole item comes in a bathtub-sized box with lots of parts and pieces. And the installation instruction manual is quite easy to follow. Besides, tons of videos online can walk you through the entire process as well.

Don’t worry, it won’t take more than two hours to assemble the whole thing. So after only a couple of hours of hard work, you get to have high-quality, waterproof, and lockable drawers on the back of your truck.

The item also includes 8 to 12 bags, each containing the parts and hardware depending on the model of the product. Each of the parts is also clearly labeled, making things much easier. Decked also comes with two weather-resistant toolboxes that fit perfectly inside the drawers.

After installation, you’ll feel everything to be very sturdy and secured with on-point overall craftsmanship. Each of the models fits perfectly with the bed of their corresponding trucks, especially the Ford F150, along with finely tuned adjustments.

Features

All in all, the truck bed has a total of six storage locations, of which two are the main drawers. And everything in this organizer will feel tight.

Drawers

Made out of two molded, high-density polyethylene, the Decked drawer slides open on rolling tracks and closes with a solid clunk. Each of the drawers is spacious enough to hold a huge amount of gear. These drawers are entirely waterproof even when unlocked and can be loaded up to 200 pounds each.

As we’ve mentioned earlier, the two drawers have quality bearing underneath. So they roll very smoothly, both empty and loaded. You can pull the drawers about a foot past the tailgate and no more.

When you pull the drawer, it also leaves a foot covered by the deck towards its rear. Although this is not ideal, it is a good choice. There would be too much stress on the system if the drawer could be pulled all the way.

Since you cannot pull it past the tailgate, it is better to put items in there that you don’t use often. Although it is not hard to access them, it’s just not visible. You have to reach through to pull those stuff out.

Ammo Cans

There are also four ammo cans at the four corners. Each of these ammo cans has a gallon of space approximately. However, unlike the two drawers, these ammo cans are not totally weatherproof. But they keep the water out pretty well if it rains.

You can keep ball hitches and chains in the cans, and flipping their lid over reveals two molded cup holders too. The ammo cans cannot be locked.

Payload

Over the drawers, there is a 2 piece subframe that’s strong enough to support 2,000 pounds or more. It is also made of an HDPE deck in-molded to a galvanized steel that gives its drawers a 10:1 weight ratio.

Material

Bear in mind that everything from the drawers, aluminum handles to the subframe, has been made from recycled materials. Speaking of handles, they are quite oversized. It makes the system easy to operate even with gloves on.

Bottle Opener

For some people, the handiest thing in this truck bed system could be the bottle opener at the back. Nothing beats the feeling at the end of a long day when you crack a cold one open.

Besides, fill the drawers with ice, add some of your favorite beverages, and you get to have two huge coolers! They’ll remember you at parties for years for sure.

Protection

The HD Polyurethane is a material impervious to acids, lubricants, and solvents, and the subframe holds up well to daily wear and tear. This construction can handle any abuse and keeps ongoing for years.

The decked truck bed system is immune to extreme UV light exposure and severe temperature as well. The exterior has fade protection, and so sunlight doesn’t seem to change its color even after years of use.

Keeping all those items organized and out of sight, this truck bed even allows you to sleep on it peacefully if you feel like it. The system is very strong, and because of it, you can even carry a camper on it.

Decked itself shouts of rigidity and ruggedness. There is nothing fickle or finicky about this storage and organizing unit. The storage is flexible, too, and you can easily move the dividers around with just the use of a screwdriver.

Easy Removal

If you think the drawer system is taking too much space and you need the space for the camper, you can easily take it down within 15 minutes or so. The uninstalling process only includes unscrewing the metal piece and the measuring stick.

Thanks to Decked extremely informative and detailed YouTube videos, everything will be so much efficient and easy too.

Smooth Ride

Sometimes when the truck is too light, you can experience a lot of bouncing on a not-so-smooth road. Your truck ride could get a lot better with the extra weight of this system and other stuff. This could be a bonus feature only realized through experience.

What Are the Downsides of a Truck Bed System?

To be totally honest with you, the downsides of this Decked truck bed for Ford F150 are almost nonexistent. But still, it is better to give you a heads up.

This organizer system, when installed on Ford F150, tends to take up most of the bottom space of the bed. Although you can use the full area, the depth of the bed would be much less. Anything would fit there but would be a bit higher than usual.

Since it can carry almost up to 2000 lbs., you can load anything you like on it from bag loads of rocks, sand or tools, etc. However, we won’t suggest you carry sand since some of them can get inside through the gaps.

Pros

  • You don’t need to drill for installing the system
  • Whole system is waterproof and tough in nature
  • System has the capacity of up to 2000 pounds
  • Each of the drawers can carry 200 pounds
  • Reinstallation takes only 10-15 minutes
  • Decked truck bed comes with a dual lock system

Cons

  • Drawers are not airtight and so dust could enter
  • You can pull the drawers up to 70% of their length

Final Words

Coming to the end of this Decked truck bed review, by now you already know the number one reason people run after this system is the extreme organizing capability. Not to mention the massive 2000 pound payload, which allows you to haul just about anything on top of it.
