Why Celadon Won’t Skip a Beat with the ELD Mandate

Everything you read about the nearing ELD mandate talks about how truck drivers and companies are going to be negatively affected by the new regulation. The mandate, in short, requires truck drivers to electronically log their hours of service, and one of the reasons for the mandate is to help increase driver safety.

A significant number of both companies and independent owner operators have yet to comply and outfit their trucks with electronic logging devices, and because of it some industry experts are forecasting a dip in productivity. Read more below about the details of the ELD mandate, and how you can avoid the potential negative side effects to drivers’ productivity.

When the ELD Mandate Goes into Effect

The ELD mandate will go into effect on December 18th, 2017, meaning inspectors will begin documenting violations on roadside inspections, and at the jurisdiction’s discretion can even issue citations.

Drivers will have until April 1st, 2018, to become compliant, after that inspectors will be able to place commercial motor vehicle drivers “Out of Service.”

Why Celadon Won’t See a Dip in Production

However, Celadon prides itself in being one of the most technologically advanced trucking companies in the industry, and is fully prepared for the government mandate. In fact, we’ve been operating under ELD compliance for several years when we implemented Qualcomm into our fleet.

Admittedly, when we first implemented E-logs Celadon did encounter a bit of a decrease in our productivity, but we’ve since worked out all the kinks! Our route and bid processes already account for our electronic log compliance, and we recently completed a full DOT audit and received a satisfactory score (the highest you can get), meaning we run legal and still get our drivers miles.

No ELD? No Problem! How Celadon Can Help You

Each Celadon company truck comes equipped with ELDs, and if you’re an Owner Operator looking to become ELD compliant, Celadon will install it into your truck for no cost! That’s right, there are no Qualcomm fees when you join the Celadon team.

Celadon also offers ELD/Qualcomm training, so you won’t have to worry about learning a new system all on your own.
